Trailcenter Rabenberg is a singletrack network near the Czech border. The trails have a natural character and are mostly easy. If you just want to ride a bike in the hills, I recommend it, but don’t expect too much ;)
You can start to plan a singletrack route by visiting the official website: www.trailcenter-rabenberg.de/trails. There are suggestions for several loops, ranging in length from 6 km to 26 km. Their colors mainly reflect their length rather than technical difficulty, that is, the black loop is black because it is the longest, not because it is so technically difficult. There are over 20 singletracks at Trailcenter Rabenberg and 3 of them are marked red on Trailforks, the rest are blue or green. Most of them are downhill and a few are uphill.
You can see some of the routes on my recordings. These are the routes from the longest loop – Black Raven.
Most singletracks are only a few hundred meters long and are not the kind of trails that would make you want to do it again. There are berms here and there, rock gardens, one wallride, but generally they are just forest paths on stones and roots. Some go straight downhill and look like paths that were once used by hikers and they marked them as singletrack to collect fees (entrance to the paths costs 12 euros). Knowing that there is an entry fee, I expected that the trails would be more prepared for bikers and that there would be more variety, such as jumps and other features.
Moreover, the singletracks lead downhill, while most of the uphill parts are covered on ordinary wide gravel roads. So it is not the same as the Polish Glacensis Singletracks, where you can travel 150 km on singletracks all the time. It is also not the same as the Czech Trutnov Trails, which are a small area and are mostly climbed on a gravel road, but the descents are so interesting and give so much pleasure that after one time they left me very unsatisfied. On the other hand, Trailcenter Rabenberg is not only about biking trails. The complex also has a rope park, via ferrata, sports fields, accommodation and a camping site. I think it may be an interesting option for an active family weekend, during which a bicycle trip will be one of several attractions.
While in the area, it is also worth visiting the Czech Republic, where there are two bike parks just across the border: Klínovec and Plešivec.
