The Tatras are undoubtedly amazing mountains. Although they occupy a small area, they delight with towering peaks and ridges. Their alpine nature, however, makes them dangerous and some trails are definitely not for everyone. Which trails are suitable for beginner, intermediate and advanced hikers?
tatras
Tatra Mountains or just Tatras is a mountain range lying in southern Poland and northern Slovakia. It has alpine character and is the highest mountain range of the Carpathians. I was few times in Tatra National Park in Poland and in Slovakia, and surely I will visit it more times. It offers amazing views and challenging hiking trails.
Roháče is a long and demanding trail in Western Tatras. It goes along a ridge at about 2000 m a.s.l. and offers gorgeous views, exposure and steep rocks which force to concentration on every step. I was fascinated!
Reportedly Priečne sedlo (2352 m) is one of the most difficult trails in Tatra National Park. Exposure, chains, steepness etc… That’s why I couldn’t wait to climb there. And that’s why I was disappointed when I got there.
On the beginning of September I spent with my friend few days in Slovakia, hiking on the most difficult trails. Our first point was Jahňací štít (Lamb Summit) which is 2229 m high.
Last winter 15 tourists died in Tatra Mountains. What to do, to not share their fate and be safe in winter in this mountain range? Read few things, I learned on winter mountaineering course.
2499 m a.s.l. – the highest point of Poland, lying on the border with Slovakia. The steep and long trail, with amazing views on surrounding mountains and lakes. Worth to visit!
Beautiful route leading along a brook in Studená Dolina and through two saddles: Prielom (2288 m a.s.l.) and Poľský hrebeň (eng. Polish Comb) at 2200 m a.s.l. First part of route was easy trial with lovely views of brook and waterfall but Prielom and Poľský hrebeň gave us a hard time.
Giewont is 1894 m high and has characteristic profile of – as legend says – sleeping knight. It is located close to Zakopane city what makes it very popular and crowded. I suggest not to go there during summer weekend unless you want to wait 3 hours in queue to the peak :)
It was 3 years ago, with 3 friends, on weekend in June. Now I know better what I can expect in Tatra mountains, but that time I didn’t know :) We didn’t expect so much people and so much snow.
The most difficult and most dangerous trail in Tatra Mountains. Secured by chains, ladders and metal steps. If you like adrenaline, you will like this path!
